The tragic train accident in Andhra Pradesh has seen a rise in the death toll, with four more lives lost, according to the Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police. As of Monday, seven of the deceased individuals have been identified, while efforts to identify the remaining victims are ongoing. In total, 54 people were injured in the accident, with 39 of them being admitted to Vizianagaram Hospital, while the rest received treatment at other hospitals, as reported by the Vizianagaram Collector.

Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, shared updates regarding the rescue operation. He informed that 11 coaches from the front of the 08532 Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger Train have reached the next station in Vizianagaram, Alamanda. Meanwhile, nine rear coaches of the 08504 Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger train were moved back to the previous station, Kantakapalle. He mentioned, “Other than the derailed and affected coaches, all have been cleared from the site.”

Rescue operations are currently in progress, and all passengers have been shifted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the situation and spoken to Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Here are the key developments in the Andhra Pradesh train incident:

1. Preliminary information suggests that the collision resulted from human error, possibly due to the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train overshooting the signal.

2. In the aftermath of the train tragedy, several trains across India have been diverted, canceled, or had their routes shortened. The Ministry of Railways provided these details in a series of bulletins on a microblogging platform.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office, on the same microblogging platform, stated that the Prime Minister has taken note of the situation and has communicated with Ashwini Vaishnaw. They emphasized that authorities are extending all possible assistance to those affected and conveyed the Prime Minister’s condolences to the grieving families, along with prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.

4. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy swiftly issued orders to implement relief measures. He arranged for multiple ambulances to be dispatched from Visakhapatnam and nearby districts to the accident site. Additionally, he directed hospitals in the vicinity to prepare for the injured persons, ensuring they receive adequate medical care. The Chief Minister also instructed railway authorities to collaborate with other government departments, including health, police, and revenue, to provide swift relief measures and prompt medical services to the injured.

5. Chief Minister Reddy announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the victims from Andhra Pradesh and Rs 2 lakh for those from other states. Severely wounded passengers from Andhra Pradesh will receive Rs 2 lakh each, while those from other states will be granted Rs 50,000 each.

6. Prime Minister Modi has pledged compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of each deceased individual. Injured individuals will receive financial aid of Rs 50,000.

7. The Ministry of Railways has issued helpline numbers, and accident relief trains and other rescue equipment have been dispatched to support the ongoing rescue efforts.
